Second Hand Smoke by Eric Hirshberg

Dear listener and reader of Soundville, today I want to tell you about a musician, a multi-industry CEO and creative business leader, as well as a singer-songwriter and a loving family man. And you probably already know him. Eric Hirshberg, who was once the CEO of Activision, the company behind franchises like Call of Duty and Guitar Hero. And that’s not all! He has many more achievements under his belt, one of which is his music. It’s such an inspiring story that it really caught my attention. After achieving stability, status, and recognition in various circles, he never let go of his dream of pursuing music.

Eric Hirshberg made his debut with the album “Spare Room” in 2021, gathering loyal listeners and fans. And soon, on September 13th, his second album “Second Hand Smoke” will be released. The album features 9 tracks, each telling the story of how not to give up when faced with personal challenges, how to find the strength to keep going, and to stay on the side of positivity. I believe Eric Hirshberg knows what he’s talking about, and his sincerity is felt in the lyrics of every song in this upcoming release.

You know what stands out the most? It’s the joy, the smooth sway of the sound, and Eric Hirshberg’s cool, laid-back vocals. “Second Hand Smoke” will create a cozy space for you, pulling you away from your troubles and giving you the strength to move forward. On the flip side, the light folk rock with hints of country guitar lets Eric Hirshberg’s music settle nicely into the background of your daily routine, making every task feel a bit more pleasant and comfortable. And very soon, you’ll be able to experience it for yourself! I had the chance to listen to the album before its release, and I’d love to share it with you.

Imagine that your inner world, perhaps filled with crashing waves of emotions, is gently calmed by the soft, airy vocals of Eric Hirshberg in the opening song, “Good Morning”. His flawless delivery, accompanied by vibrant backing vocals, sets a deeply soothing tone. A rich saxophone adds a pinch of peacefulness to the melody, leaving you wanting more. It’s the perfect start to the album, promising a sophisticated and cozy sound to come. This is why the following track, “Half Way Home”, with its striking guitar, swaying rhythm, and impeccable, resonant drums, immediately captivates. It’s the kind of song that paints vivid pictures of carefree evenings, time spent with loved ones, and the gentle pace of life. Soft strings, delicate guitar riffs, and excellent lyrics emphasize this serene atmosphere.

However, brace yourself, because when “I Love Not Drinking” and “It’s Hard To Be A Human Being” hit, you might just find yourself swaying along to the melodies, and maybe even adding one of these songs to your playlist!

In “I Love Not Drinking”, the atmosphere of a live show flows from start to finish. Crowd cheers, applause, and the chorus make you feel closer to the experience. Honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve heard tracks that spark such vivid imagery in the mind. It sounds incredible, especially with the stunning jazz-infused backing vocals, which create a completely fresh sound for the song. This is where Eric Hirshberg’s ability to craft diverse music within his genre shines brightest. Then, in “It’s Hard To Be A Human Being”, you’ll be treated to a stylish arrangement that pulls you into a dance. Truly, you’ll find yourself twirling to this track, letting Eric Hirshberg’s music completely captivate your mind and soul.

“Second Hand Smoke” by Eric Hirshberg is your moment of peace in a world of noisy information and endless motion. His ability to calm the mind truly shines in the “Unbroken”, which is already available on Spotify. This slow folk-rock ballad invites you to pause, listen to the lyrics, and immerse yourself in Eric’s soft voice, which at times drops almost to a whisper. It’s an incredibly romantic track with light commercial appeal, airy keys, and country rock guitars. If you enjoy gentle, melancholic tunes, then hit play on “Unbroken”, you’ll absolutely love it.

“Goodnight, Nobody” closes the album with a lullaby for the night. Its lush arrangement, foggy sound, and nighttime haze immediately draw you in. The vocals, lightly echoed, feel intensely personal and intimate, as if Eric Hirshberg isn’t afraid to open his heart to the listener, allowing everyone to experience a moment of joy in the present. It’s a very tender ending to the album, and incredibly personal. I have to admit, it gave me chills. It’s the perfect conclusion, leaving a warm aftertaste long after listening.

If you happen to be in Los Angeles on September 15th, then you’re incredibly lucky, because Eric Hirshberg will be performing a show at LA’s Hotel Cafe in support of the album. Man, I wish I could be there. To feel that atmosphere of love and tranquility that Eric Hirshberg’s music brings. So, don’t miss out! And if you do make it, enjoy the show for me too!

Hey Eric Hirshberg! Thank you for releasing such flawless, light, and touching music. Honestly, I’ve fallen in love with your album for its sincerity, for your incredible dedication and the inspiration that comes through in everysong. And the love, oh my god, so much love! In every word, in every note. I feel like this kind of genuine music is exactly what the world needs right now, to help everyone be a little kinder and closer to one another. The sound quality is phenomenal, and those backing vocals… Wow, I’m blown away.
And if I may say one more thing: your example, your story, and your success can truly inspire other musicians to keep pushing toward releasing their own music, to follow their dreams no matter what. (It’s definitely inspired me!) I’ll be telling all my friends about your music, so they can listen to something great, right?
