Tomorrow is a Storm by Ratyński

Dear listeners and readers of Soundville,

I’ve found a fantastic conceptual EP for you ‘Tomorrow is a Storm’ by Paweł Ratyński. In just four acoustic guitar tracks, Ratyński masterfully weaves together themes of fear, hope, and anticipation, reflecting on the complex world today’s children are set to inherit. Each track captures different states of the world, and every listener will be able to feel the enchanting power of Ratyński’s music. His ability to create sound that comes alive in the mind, painting vivid pictures, is truly impressive. All of this is thanks to his guitar and his soul. It’s wonderful to touch such refined music, to feel how the sound shifts and transforms, and how the mood changes with it.

I suggest you take a break right now and enjoy the brilliant conceptual sound of this EP. The release opens with ‘Morning of Hope’, offering a modern interpretation of bossa nova. Ratyński’s soft playing immediately creates a spacious sound, filled with optimism and light. I love how the melody shifts, how bright textured elements weave into it, adding dynamics and highlighting the hustle of life. The shift of thoughts, seasons, events, and emotions are reflected in Ratyński’s simultaneously relaxed yet technically brilliant fingerstyle playing. This composition urges you to greet every hectic day with open eyes and a heart full of hope. ‘Morning of Hope’ sets a calming tone for the release, balancing the heavier themes of the EP with a sense of peaceful anticipation.

The title track ‘Tomorrow is a Storm’ draws inspiration from the folk traditions of the Polish mountains, reimagined through the lens of acoustic post-rock. You’ll feel how the composition conveys a new perspective on the storm, not as a chaotic force but as a structured, rhythmic phenomenon. ‘Tomorrow is a Storm’ is built on sharp contrasts: rhythmic, tonal, structural. A technically complex track, it captures the beauty and magic of even the most challenging and dark phenomena. From bright bursts to melancholic fades, from low notes to high, from darkness to light every stroke carries its own poetry and metaphor in ‘Tomorrow is a Storm’. Thanks to Ratyński’s skillful playing, the track reflects the beauty, wonder, and satisfaction that can be found even as we navigate the inevitable transformations during our own storms.

‘The Lost Anthem’ serves as a poignant reflection on dystopian realities, becoming the voice of the lost. The recurring themes in the song seem to compete for attention, symbolizing the struggle to be heard in a world overshadowed by uncertainty. You feel it too, don’t you? In ‘The Lost Anthem,’ new motifs seem to emerge, not found in the previous tracks. There’s something very intimate and closed-off, yet filled with the beauty of folk melodies and an open heart. I love how the gentle, free solo that closes ‘The Lost Anthem’ brings a sense of peace, emphasizing the fleeting moments of joy that can be found even in the darkest of realities.

The final track, ‘Dreamy River,’ uses the metaphor of a river after a storm to symbolize renewal and rebirth. Dear reader, you know that the darkest night always comes just before the dawn, right? So it is with the EP ‘Tomorrow is a Storm’ no matter how dark life, events, and circumstances may seem, dawn will come, and hope for a better future will fill the heart with relief and the mind with light. Ratyński’s performance is exceptional on this track, and it reflects the concept of the entire release. Alternating between the refinement of high notes that resemble a harp and the depth of bass that reminds one of a double bass, Ratyński creates a vivid, unforgettable, and almost visual auditory experience. Light and darkness, pain and joy, high notes and low always walk hand in hand. ‘Dreamy River’ leaves an encouraging vision of the beginning of something new, bright, and radiant. You feel that too, right?

Hey, Paweł Ratyński! Thank you for creating such amazing music. Every track is incredibly deep, with its own soul, energy, and sense of freedom. When I listened, I felt completely at peace, and it was such a pleasure to hear the soft playing, the intertwining of different techniques, moods, structures, and harmonies. It’s rare to come across an acoustic conceptual release made with so much love and inspiration. It’s fantastic. You know, ‘The Lost Anthem’ especially touched me. I felt something in the sound that seemed to come from distant medieval music. Something filled with the warmth of candles, the luxury of medieval castles, and slow dances. This track became my favorite! And what a beautiful design for the release! True works of art. I’ll show ‘Tomorrow is a Storm’ to everyone I know so they can listen to great music and be as inspired as I am. Oh, it was magnificent!
