Artists of the Moon by Andrew Moore and Hooch

Dear listeners and readers of Soudnville,

It’s been a while since we’ve heard some stylish blues music, blending soft country and rock sounds. I want to tell you about the amazing band Andrew Moore and Hooch and their new album ‘Artists of the Moon,’ but first, let me share a bit more about Andrew Moore and Hooch because their story is simply incredible. The music of Andrew Moore and Hooch represents a fresh mix of genres, seemingly drawing inspiration from all corners of American music history, and their latest album, a product of 14 months of intense work, proves how much soul they put into what they do. Combining new-wave blues, country, and soulful rock, this five-piece ensemble creates a heartfelt and unique sound that balances rich instrumental sections with deeply personal lyrics.

Led by Andrew Moore, who is both the voice and pianist of Andrew Moore and Hooch, the new release ‘Artists of the Moon’ radiates a sense of unity in its music. From Jordan Robson’s saxophone, which brings a touch of jazz elegance, to Gabe Crockett’s sharp guitar riffs, Logan Turner’s smooth bass, and Matthew J. Skaggs’ drumming, each instrument in the hands of these seasoned musicians carries a vibrant heart and soul. The experience of Andrew Moore and Hooch, regularly performing live at venues like Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse in Lexington and Cincinnati, shines through, giving their sound a polished yet deeply soulful edge.

I would like to point out that the lyrics written by Andrew Moore are based on personal experiences, which adds a layer of intimacy that runs throughout the entire album. Despite the bright sound and stunning production of the tracks, you will feel a slight melancholy or the weight of unspoken thoughts. All of this is woven into the fabric of the 15 songs. It’s music for late nights and long drives, making you both reflect and hope. And I suggest you dive right in and feel the energy and impeccable sound of the album from the very first track, ‘Another Ride With You.’

Impeccable performance, a swinging atmosphere that feels familiar thanks to the soft country rock motifs but entirely new because of Andrew Moore’s stylish blues vocals, sets a high bar for the entire release. I’m sure you’ll be immediately drawn into the world of Andrew Moore and Hooch, and you won’t be able to stop listening to the album ‘Artists of the Moon,’ just like I couldn’t. Then comes the vibrant blues world of the track ‘Tyrant’ with its slow sound, melancholic vocals, and utterly serene atmosphere. Soft percussion and keys sway the mood, as if the entire world is sinking into a melancholic haze, while the vocals guide you forward, offering a hand for salvation. Impeccably touching and profound.

But with the next track, excellent horns and fierce drums take center stage, while the light pop-blues vocals fully dissipate the melancholic mood. Isn’t this exactly what you expect from great songs that truly touch the soul? I was absolutely struck by the ease, depth, and tenderness of the track ‘Hey Dad.’ Here, the music becomes tangible, warming you with its loving embrace and warmth. Impeccable!

I can’t help but highlight ‘Stone Cold Killer,’ where the unique sound shines, and the vocals take on powerful tones and flawless energy. And as if in contrast, the track ‘Spaceman’ reaches back to the band’s classic roots, with an almost ethereal atmosphere, expansive vocals, and soft saxophone. This song undoubtedly broadens their audience, offering excellent blues closer to a classic sound. I love the way emotions and sounds flow throughout the album ‘Artists of the Moon.’ Here, flashes of fiery sound alternate with cool, melancholic breezes, yet always keeping your attention riveted.

‘Come Home’ sounds like a reflection, like the slow passage of time, and the passionate guitar alongside the sultry saxophone quicken my pulse. You can sway to the melody in your living room, candles lit and a glass in hand. ‘Come Home’ is my favorite track on the album, allowing you to bask in the remarkable feeling that Andrew Moore and Hooch know exactly what kind of music touches the soul. The next track, ‘We’ll Dance,’ completely shifts the atmosphere, and slow dances turn into bright, hip-swaying movements and smiles. I love the energy here, as if the music itself comes alive. If one song holds this much energy, imagine what their live performances must be like? It’s simply incredible, wow!

The album closes with ‘Tyrant (Stripped),’ a more intimate and acoustic version of the track. I love this element of closure, a rethinking, creating an atmosphere of infinity. It’s as if Andrew Moore and Hooch want to emphasize the timelessness of their music, its ability to transform and convey different emotions. You’re feeling inspired, aren’t you? Then don’t wait! Start playing the album ‘Artists of the Moon’ now to experience all the powerful force of their incredible blues sound. Keep your ears open! Andrew Moore and Hooch are ready to make some noise.
