Dear listeners and readers of Soundville,
I have always been amazed and have taken genuine pleasure in how differently and uniquely ambient musicians work within this genre, with each release revealing in a completely new way how ambient music can sound. One of these artists is Jordi Forniés and his EP ‘Nokto 2’, which is absolutely exquisite. Here, it is a very intimate and personal piano sound, where each note is so soaring, spacious, and possessing its own aura, which weaves together with other notes, forming a very ethereal, expansive sound that draws you in with deep and atmospheric music. This is where its beauty lies, its uniqueness, and the absolute novelty of flawless performance. In his EP, Jordi Forniés adds conceptuality, adds profound meaning that everyone will be able to feel for themselves. Even without mentioning what this album is about, each note, each movement of the melody, and the way it streams through the harmonies conveys the atmosphere better than any words.
Through six tracks, Jordi Forniés tells of his personal experience, rethinking resilience, loss, and the hope that in one way or another fills the heart even after the most heartbreaking moments. A broken heart, depression, reflection, beauty in the little things, all of this shapes new views of the world and becomes a kind of rebirth that leads to a new beginning and a new life. Both the light minimalism and the sound of the felt piano, which add a conditional breath to each note, will certainly be able to touch every listener and raise in their soul memories and rethinking. Perhaps, after listening, there will be more strength at the start to move forward and to look at life and the events happening in it in a new way. And the first, ‘It’s Time To Dream,’ immediately conveys this very feeling of acceptance and sense of reality, which is so important for ambient music.
The melody soars, each note touches the heart and soul, and the feeling of melancholy from a broken heart and the loss of something important that once formed the whole reality is felt with goosebumps on the skin. Each new bar tells this story, the melody then builds up, then recedes, like a tide, and this is incredibly captivating. The next track, ‘Blue Air,’ as if continues ‘It’s Time To Dream’, and this creates a connected atmosphere and story. Only this time in the composition Jordi Forniés creates a more secluded melody. It sounds deeper, quieter, does not allow the sound to acquire such a voluminous and large sound as in ‘It’s Time To Dream’, and this minimalism and light closedness as if symbolize an inner conversation with oneself or an inner monologue. And then in ‘The Rain That Shines’ the melody slows down even more, and quieter and deeper harmonies sway and dissolve into themselves, creating a very intimate sound.
As if ‘The Rain That Shines’ is made in order to simply remain alone with oneself, to accept ourselves as we are, to accept events, to allow them to be, and this is very important to feel. Working with such a genre is very challenging, especially with piano music, which has its own charm absent in other instruments. It speaks the language of feelings and the soul, reaching deep into the mind, and this is mastered only by very rare musicians whose soul sings in the notes of the piano. The atmosphere in the album changes from track to track, and in ‘Beings’ and ‘Morning Drops’ it fills with hope, with lighter, spring tones. You can simply meditate to these compositions, disconnect from reality, enjoy your own thoughts and activities, or continue the album’s concept by finding beauty and love in the surrounding world, in small details. This makes ‘Nokto 2’ such a necessary part of the vast world of new age and ambient music.
This is the very strength of ambient, allowing the soul to soar far from reality and even experience a light trance that works in a healing way even on the most restless mind. The final ‘Love Me More Than Ever’ closes the album with a sense of hope and lightness. The melody carries high notes, sensual harmonies, creating an effect of ephemerality and freedom. Each note unfolds, and the track sounds like a dance of shimmering lights that echo one another, lights you want to watch and enjoy, taking in their freedom and calm, filling your soul with hope and acceptance. This is truly very hard to achieve, yet Jordi Forniés in his EP ‘Nokto 2’ managed to do it. That is exactly why this release becomes one of my favorites of this summer. You felt it too, right? After listening, I was left with the desire to listen to the EP again and, perhaps, leave it on repeat for some time. Be sure to add your favorite tracks to your playlists for meditation and rest, because the music in ‘Nokto 2’ really will help to disconnect from reality and, after listening, return more renewed and inspired. It was amazing!
Hello, Jordi Forniés! Thank you for releasing such gentle music. This is an incredible album, filled with feeling, love, liberation, and your music truly changes the atmosphere, influences the soul. I like how sometimes ‘Nokto 2’ sounds melancholic, this creates a very dramatic and deep effect. I feel incredible inspiration here, intimacy, and so much of your soul, and opening your heart to listeners is a very big step that only a professional musician who truly has something to say to this world is capable of. And this is very valuable, incredible, and that is why I would like to show the album to everyone so that each person can enjoy such deep, unique ambient music. This was very heartfelt. I love it, and I am your fan!
With much love,
Soundville
