Dear listeners and readers of Soundville,
Are you ready to hear something absolutely new and exciting, something that brings imagination, images, and stories to life? Then quickly put aside everything you are doing to listen to the unique gothic indie Americana self-titled debut album by Del Roscoe. But let me first tell you a little about Del Roscoe, because their story and their vision of the world shape their unique and inimitable sound. These guys are from Atlanta, and their debut album ‘Del Roscoe’ was finished shortly before the death of bassist Paul Abrelat. The soul of Del Roscoe, the way the band perceives the world through their music, is reflected in their conceptuality and in the way their music is built, because each of their performances, each photograph, each appearance in public is a part of one story and one concept that they are forming. When they come on stage and you listen to their music, it really seems as if something mystical comes alive, something inexplicable and therefore incredibly attractive.
Anxious lap steel, accordion, unusual and captivating tight harmonies intertwine, mandolin, and all of this is grounded in the remarkable songwriting of Robert Lee. And when you hear for the first time such a multifaceted sound, it really feels like something completely new and unique has been found, something that the soul and the heart had been asking for, after becoming accustomed to the endless stream of rather similar and formulaic hit songs flooding the radio. I would even call it a crisis, one in which fresh new voices, absolutely wild ideas, and conceptual albums such as ‘Del Roscoe’ are simply essential. And that is why I would like to highlight a few of the most stunning songs that, for me, created the world of Del Roscoe, and after listening to them my day truly changed, and my mind was filled with inspiration.

The gothic Americana of Del Roscoe strikes the ear right from the first track ‘Bad Lovin”. The voice, distant and the guitar sounding in the background, and then the melody breaks into the headphones, and this creates the effect of moving through time, which forms a new sound. And you know, it is interesting that the Americana roots are very vividly heard in ‘Bad Lovin”, but at the same time the unique harmonies and stylish vocals somehow hint that everything is not as simple as it may seem at first sight.
And then the track ‘Westward’ with a very bright and swinging motive only on one side reveals the very ringing and stylish sound of Del Roscoe, to which one can have fun, dance and enjoy every moment of the day. But on the other side, the constant feeling of the presence of something invisible, something that may suddenly appear unexpectedly for everyone, is undoubtedly present in ‘Westward’. And I like the deep lyrics and the metaphoric sound of Del Roscoe, as, for example, in the tracks ‘Train Train’ and ‘Black Hats’ with light melancholic indie touches and Americana, emphasizing the spaciousness and many-sidedness of the lyrics, especially in ‘Black Hats’, in which political accents are undoubtedly felt.
These tracks for me form some kind of special sound that awakens precisely that same dark unique indie tone. And also, dear listener, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that we do not see the faces of Del Roscoe, there are only masks behind which Del Roscoe are hidden, and this creates an additional layer of mystical, almost fairytale-like, illusory atmosphere. When you listen to the album ‘Del Roscoe’, each track feels like a new revelation. That is exactly what happened to me with the track ‘Visions’, with its very unique rhythm and pretty cool vocal. You know, it is the kind of track you can spin around to in the hall, constantly trying to catch the rhythm, but at the same time it very easily and lightly slips away, changes. I must admit that for this reason ‘Visions’ is my favorite track. In their debut album Del Roscoe seem to play with my consciousness and imagination and push me toward fantasies. I love this!

The completely charming track ‘Ready For It All To End’ sounds like a love confession, and there is something very light, romantic and gentle in it, maybe it is the guitars or the keyboards, maybe it is the vocal and the lyrics. The general mood that ‘Ready For It All To End’ creates is very cozy and tender, and you can put it on repeat, and believe me, your day will shine with new colors. The album ‘Del Roscoe’ closes with the stylish and swinging ‘One More Song’. And do you know what the breaking of the fourth wall is? It is when the presence of the author becomes so real that it seems as if they are addressing you directly through music, text, or image. And this is what happened to me in the final ‘One More Song’. There is something in it so mystical that it feels as if Del Roscoe are speaking directly to my heart and soul. They become like the best friends who comfort you. Flawless!
The gothic quality in ‘Del Roscoe’ has nothing to do with overloaded dark pads, flashy makeup, or attributes. In the music of Del Roscoe, their gothic essence lies in the details, in the harmonies, the vocals, in the rhythms and instruments, in their image and their story, in the lyrics, and this image is much harder to create than the one formed through effects when writing a track. That is exactly why this is the kind of album you want to listen to again and again, discovering it in a new way each time. I think I will put the release on repeat. Wow, this was amazing, absolutely cool, incredibly stylish and filled with a completely new atmosphere that I am sure you have never encountered anywhere before. So be sure to add your favorite tracks to your playlists and follow Del Roscoe so you don’t lose such wonderful and unique music. This is truly cool, I love it!
Hey, Del Roscoe! Thank you for releasing such wonderful music. For a debut record this is unbelievably cool, a very impressive concept and sound quality, as if you have been releasing music your whole life. And it really makes me feel that there will be even more of such great tracks ahead. You know, your image is unique: the masks and the mystique around you create a special atmosphere, one that is memorable and makes you want to unravel it, and even watch the stories that are being shaped through your music. This was really great, and I will definitely show the album to everyone, everyone, everyone. Let them also listen to such unique and beautiful music. I love this, and I am your fan!
With much love,
Soundville
