Can darkness burst into bright colors and lift your mood in just two minutes? Yes! if you’re listening to ‘Blood’ by pMad. If you picture puddles of blood and traces of battle to the sound of rock, you’re mistaken. pMad is the only one who can make muddy roads sparkle and convince me they’re beautiful. Immersed in an atmosphere of smoke, underground tones, and mystery, I came back smiling after the very first listen. Think such transformations are impossible? I’ll prove they are, just as pMad proved that in Darkwave Goth, you don’t have to stay dark to the bone.
The real name behind pMad is Paul Dillon, the only artist who’s managed to energize a fresh wave of sound reminiscent of Rammstein and Killing Joke while adding his own unexpected shades. Starting out with The Suicidal Dufflecoats, Paul, hailed as ‘The Best of Irish Indie,’ entered into a genuine dialogue with his fans, inviting them to vote for their favorite albums, tracks, and creative directions. This connection brought striking results, adding unexpected new dimensions to his work. Even the Covid-19 pandemic turned out to be a catalyst for the artist, who recently reached a new level with the release of his album ‘I in Power.’

The track ‘Blood’ declares itself with gothic guitars. Almost immediately, the hypnotic vocal of the frontman turns on, immersing you in an electric atmosphere of darkness. A devilish reverb hangs above the electric lightning of electric guitars, creating an impression of a special gloom of an underground. However, not devoid of life. Against the background of electric flashes, the darkness gradually dissolves, and the blackness begins to shine. The gloom gradually retreats, turning the black into something shiny, sparkling, but without a trace of glamour. And all of this under the hanging vocal of the frontman.
At times I felt distant rumbles of darkness, but the guitars had already added a fair dose of bright electric light to it. It was no longer a message from the underworld, but an emergence into the light from a tunnel. The blood was drying, life was being reborn, the mood turning into an orange, vibrant drive with no hint of darkness. Paul Dillon released me from the gloom of darkness, revealing new facets of light.
Hey pMad! Thanks for releasing such awesome music. You know, when I listened to your track, I realized it truly pulls you out of the blues first taking you into darkness, then into light. The single ‘Blood’ is Darkwave with gorgeous themes, amazingly balancing between lightning and diamond sparkle. It’s a passage from darkness to light, something you can really feel while listening. It was incredibly cool. I love it and want more!
