Thirty-odd years on the road? and the speed only grows. The Real McKenzies from Vancouver return with the first single ‘I Wanna Eat Sardines (With Yer Mother)’ from the upcoming album ‘On Yer Bike’. And you know, already from the track title it is clear: the band stays itself. This is Celtic punk in its purest form: bagpipes, guitars, the rumble of drums and a chorus that simply physically demands to be shouted at full voice somewhere in a bar and without censorship.

It is telling that the album will come out on the Stomp Records label following the closure of Fat Wreck Chords. This is a peculiar change of shore for The Real McKenzies, but with the preservation of their faithful course. Paul McKenzie sounds as though he is twenty-five again and an endless tour lies ahead. The single ‘I Wanna Eat Sardines (With Yer Mother)’ balances exactly where the band has always felt best of all: between traditional Scottish folk and punk that takes everything in a row.
