Witty Tarbox (Cody Tarbox, Alex Khoury, Colin Gray, and Seth Bykowski), it seems, belong to the latter. Their third studio album ‘Midnight Sun’ consisting of eight tracks already holds something paradoxical in its title. The Midnight Sun is a phenomenon where darkness never falls, and the album’s sound constantly teeters on a delicate edge.

I love how from the very first track ‘Whippoorwill’ a groovy country rhythm and remarkable vocals unfold. With ‘Holy Cadillac’ and ‘Lake Effect Surf’ the melody expands into fast country rock’n’roll, and the live vocals add a sense of presence as if you’re at a live concert. In ‘Fentanyl Crawl’ the vocals grow stronger, the melody with its complex rhythm grips you instantly, while the final ‘The Nowhere’ unveils the band’s more experimental and dreamy side. Incredible!
