SOYEON has spent years shaping i-dle, the South Korean girl group formed by Cube Entertainment in 2018, as the group’s leader and primary producer, writing some of its biggest songs while building a reputation for sharp concepts and restless creative ambition.

Released on September 7, “What a wonderful life” is her first full-length solo album and follows 2021’s Windy. Across the album’s eight songs, Soyeon is sincere, natural and as close to her listeners as an artist can be. She wrote and composed all eight tracks, bringing collaborators including GroovyRoom and R.Tee into a record that races through indie rock, hyperpop, disco, EDM and softer pop music in roughly 19 minutes 38 seconds.

On “I’m gonna TOESA (feat. Kian84)” , a warm band arrangement carries SOYEON into an office-worker fantasy about quitting the job and reclaiming the present. Its Korean title uses “TOESA,” the Korean word for resignation, and the song treats that decision as liberation. The playful delivery keeps the rebellion buoyant: she wants the door, the daylight and the rest of her life, preferably right now.

Then the album starts kicking holes through its own walls. “Bankroll” brings a sharp-edged mix of electronic energy and rock spirit, “icebluerabbit” shoots forward on hyperpop speed, and “STAR” pairs retro synthesizers with a driving bassline and disco momentum. Each change arrives quickly and confidently.

At 90 seconds, “Hate Veggie Song” turns her running vegetable joke into an anime-inspired miniature. Its placement makes perfect sense inside an album built around personality, impulse and everyday obsessions.

The second half lowers the lights. “Amigo (feat. Minsu)”, introduces another voice before “Would you love me” strips the production. “Goodbye, Romance” closes the album in post-breakup reflection, replacing the opener’s rush toward freedom with the quieter business of living through its consequences.

“What a Wonderful Life” moves at sprinting pace, and several ideas leave while their hooks still carry heat. The brevity also suits SOYEON: decisive, impatient and eager to chase the next spark.

Soyeon wonderful life comes with resignation papers, loud guitars, strange rabbits and vegetables. Naturally, she makes the whole thing sound exhilarating.
