Brighton singer-songwriter Sadie Nix brings pop-rock attitude and country songwriting detail to “Over It”, from her debut album Friends Get You Killed. Her sharpest move is admitting her own contribution to a toxic relationship while showing the other person the door.

“I took your red flags and made a dress” gives that reckoning a wonderfully pointed image. There’s humour in the exaggeration, alongside the uncomfortable recognition of having willingly dressed up somebody else’s warning signs. That self-awareness makes the song’s defiance persuasive. Nix gives herself a proper telling-off, then uses the lesson to reclaim control over who gets her attention.
