On “Life of the Party,” the New York alt rock crew bottle that jittery, too-loud-in-your-head feeling and turn it into something you can actually scream along to. It’s all the right kind of chaos: bright hooks, restless guitars, a chorus engineered for packed rooms and raised voices. But underneath the rush, there’s a knot in the chest. “Life of the Party” lives in that weird space between wanting the spotlight and wanting to disappear from it entirely.

Formed by longtime friends Pat Carroll, Greg Diem, Evan Brandow and Paul Vomvas, Final Call have been grinding it out with a sound that pulls from across the emo-pop and alt rock spectrum, think Green Day urgency, Paramore bite, Weezer charm, and the widescreen punch of Foo Fighters. It’s familiar DNA, but they’re not coasting on nostalgia. There’s a sharper edge here, and more to say. Highly recommended!
