British-Ghanaian rapper Benicio returns with “Eve,” the lead single from his forthcoming debut mixtape, A Beautiful Day. Formerly part of the RUDEWRLD collective, he previously appeared on Dreams Worth Fighting For, a collaborative tape that reached the Top 15 of Ghana’s All Album Charts and the Top 5 of its World Genre Chart. His music has also featured on Spotify and Apple Music playlists including Trotro Vibes and African Hip-Hop.
“Eve” brings Ghanaian HipLife, Afroswing and UK rap into the same lively space. Benicio is joined by SLO and longtime collaborator COLLINZ, while a sample from Ghanaian HipLife legends VIP roots the track firmly in the music of his heritage. Its upbeat production carries the warmth and movement of Afrobeats alongside the direct energy of contemporary British rap.
“It means everything to me because I feel like it’s where my two worlds intersect. I’m combining my interest in rap music with my Ghanaian heritage.” He explains. “It perfectly symbolises my upbringing in a way which feels authentic to me on all fronts.”
Romance takes centre stage here. Benicio celebrates attraction and admiration, following a long rap tradition of writing openly about a woman who has captured the artist’s attention.
His girlfriend also appears on the recording, contributing background vocals to the chorus and adding a personal touch to the affectionate mood of “Eve.”
For Benicio, “Eve” also represents the connection between his British upbringing and Ghanaian roots.
