Dear listeners and readers of Soundville,
Let’s take a walk together through the dark alleys of our minds with the debut EP ‘So In My Head’ by Heather Choate Davis (aka Sophia Streams). This is a new project that finds inspiration in the deepest corners of the psyche, transforming them into something beautiful and soulful, filling every beat with love to overcome the darkness and fears. Embracing ideas of self-reflection, introspection, and inner chaos, ‘So In My Head’ whispers in your ear, both a warning and a promise of forgiveness. And you know, it’s deeply personal, something not every artist dares to explore this deeply.
Sophia Streams not only wrote these songs but also produced them, gathering a talented group of artists, each adding their own soul to this EP. And you know, it’s incredibly intimate and palpable. The mix of genres, lyrics, and voices makes ‘So In My Head’ an amazing experience that everyone should try.
The EP opens with “Chasing the Second Hand,” where Colby Key shines like never before. Neon ’80s vibes, with a driving beat and sleek pop rhythm, immediately fill the space with an incredible party atmosphere. I love that “Chasing the Second Hand” is a direct hit on overloaded minds, filled with constant distractions and endless pursuits that never fade. Colby throws you into this whirlwind with such force that by the end, you’re ready to shout, “Where’s my pause button?!” The upbeat tempo of the song masterfully intertwines with its themes of self-doubt and relentless ambition.

And then “Dioramas in the Rain” pulls you out of that space. With Hannah Rost’s vocals, this folk-pop track slowly sinks into the raindrops of fragile dreams, as if each of us is creating our own perfect world that crumbles under the weight of reality. Broken but inspiring, this song reminds us that not all of our aspirations are built to survive. Hannah Rost’s emotional delivery amplifies the song’s poignant message, making it a standout moment in the release.
I’m really into “Mind Like An Airbnb,” a country explosion with a lively, truly uncompromising spirit. Nick Taylor, guitar in hand, sings about how our mind is like a revolving door where toxic, unwanted thoughts wander freely. But “Mind Like An Airbnb” is a battle cry: “No more strangers! My space, my rules!” It’s an empowering call to reclaim your mental space and your voice, wrapping a fresh sense of self in the familiar warmth of country melodies.
“Helter Skelter Man” throws you into the dark side. Blake Flattley, with his gritty R&B vocals, tells the tale of how temptation can tear you down to the core. Dark rhythms, a dirty beat, and Blake Flattley’s tone create the atmosphere of a thoughtful self-reflection on the price of desire. I’m hooked by the artist’s compelling voice, his slick performance, and the playful pauses that tease the listener. I’m all in with the concept of “Helter Skelter Man.” It’s a cautionary story of temptation and the cost of sacrificing your soul for fleeting fame. Sell your soul for glory? Oh, this track, and honestly, I already know how that’s going to end.
But don’t worry, my friend, not all is hopeless. At the finish line, we are met by “River of Love” featuring Madison Youch, offering a closing note of peace. The laid-back vibe of light soul lifts you like a breeze, and Madison Youch’s airy vocals create the sensation of being wrapped in a wave of forgiveness. Her performance smooths out the edges, and as the last notes play, I feel like I’ve finally let go of something I’d been carrying for far too long. Oh, what a flawless release, full of soul, with different perspectives that really grab you. I love it!
Hey, Sophia Streams! Thank you for creating such amazing music and for allowing new voices to emerge in this world. This is a huge undertaking, requiring a tremendous amount of love, hope, and devotion. You can hear it in this release, and right from the first track, it creates a safe space. I’m thrilled by the emotions, effort, and inspiration here, and I can confidently say this is one of my favorite releases. Keep making more of these incredible collaborations with different artists, and I’ll keep sharing ‘So In My Head’ with everyone. Because everyone will find that one sound, that one track, that strikes a chord the most. Love it!
