Dear listeners and readers of Soundville,
Today we’ll be listening to an excellent debut EP, ‘Wonder Woman’ by D’Lee from Fort Worth, Texas. Six tracks performed in a passionate, vibrant country style, filled with cool and interesting meanings. Through country rock, D’Lee raises important social themes, from finding love through hardship to growing up and overcoming adversity. You know, this is a very bright and life-affirming EP. Each track is packed with such a tangible power and energy that it truly feels hot in the literal sense of the word. You’ll feel it from the first track, and you’ll want to play the EP over and over in your headphones, speakers, on your most carefree days. You know, when listening to ‘Wonder Woman,’ you get this feeling as if you’re on a road that unfolds like a personal chronicle, a strange mix of wild passion and warm vulnerability, support, and a free spirit that you can only find in open-hearted people. I could say that many tracks on the EP possess motivational and inspiring energy. D’Lee is only just rising to the pedestal of country rock fame, but already holds a strong position with ‘Wonder Woman,’ and I suggest you start listening right now to see for yourself and allow yourself a small break to enjoy some great music. Get comfortable, because we’re starting!

The EP opens with the first track, ‘Kissing Frogs.’ D’Lee reimagines the classic fairy tale of the frog prince. You remember that story, right? With rocking guitars, a tight groovy rhythm, and D’Lee’s passionate vocals, the story unfolds in your mind, making it hard not to nod along to the beat. This track is about the search for love and those often unspoken aspects fruitless pursuits, patience, and a lingering skepticism, with a touch of humor. I hear D’Lee’s raspy voice and feel that there’s no room for romantic illusions, it’s more about resilience and, oddly enough, a tenderness toward oneself and one’s feelings.
Next, ‘Cinderella’ seems to continue the fairytale theme, though it’s worth remembering that every tale contains a grain of truth. D’Lee takes familiar themes and shows them from a perspective often overlooked. I enjoy the stylish rhythm and swinging vocals that light up the atmosphere with polished country rock. There are hints of classic rock influence here, adding a spark that ignites a fire in your mind. In ‘Cinderella,’ D’Lee invites us to take a breath and let go of expectations because we mustn’t forget ourselves, our true selves, in the endless pursuit of dreams.
The title track ‘Wonder Woman’ begins with a warm country sound. D’Lee’s voice gains a soft sound, thoughtful notes, and the slow unfolding of the melody allows you to close your eyes and just breathe. I like how D’Lee invites each listener to a conversation about our own little victories and defeats. D’Lee opens up to us in this song like few would dare completely and absolutely honestly. This hides a strength honed by quiet nights, doubts, and faith that tomorrow will indeed be better. I want to draw your attention to ‘Better Than Bitter.’ You know, here I find that defiant side of D’Lee, her groovy rock roots, with powerful guitar riffs that feel like a sip of fiery special whiskey hidden by a grandfather in a dusty barn somewhere between boxes of tools. ‘Better Than Bitter’ is impeccable country rock that takes your breath away with its cool groove and slow sensual rhythm.

The climax arrives with ‘Chasing Dreams,’ a song that feels like a gift for anyone striving for something greater than themselves. D’Lee comforts through her slow performance, encouraging us not to give up on the fight, to see the world through her eyes and feel the energy of hope in her sound. You feel it, and you don’t want to let go until the last beat. Oh, how amazing that is!
The EP concludes with the final track, ‘Whispering Like a Yell,’ a song that sounds like a whisper breaking into a scream. D’Lee is like a metaphorical diary, and you realize that even silence can scream. The lyrics, D’Lee’s performance, the slow arrangement with a sensual rhythm, and soft strings in ‘Whispering Like a Yell’ reveal an inner conflict, urging us to recognize our own strength and perhaps not fear this chaos, because it is a part of us. Undoubtedly, this is a powerful and sensual conclusion that leaves a feeling of wanting more, maybe even wanting to listen to ‘Wonder Woman’ once again. You feel it too, right? Oh, it was an amazing adventure with a refined and carefully crafted sound dynamic, gentle country ballads, and powerful country rock anthems. Definitely my favorite EP. I love it!

You know, that feeling when you hear something and in your head it clicks: “Oh, I think I get it, I feel this!” The same happened with the EP ‘Wonder Woman’. There’s so much inspiration, love, devotion, and care here that after listening, I want to embrace the whole world and shower everyone with love. Your music brings love and light to the world!
