Fourteen years is an entire era in the music industry. During this time, genres emerge and disappear, trends change and listeners manage to grow up and develop completely new musical habits. Fourteen years is a period in which an entire generation of listeners manages to change, recording technologies go through three revolutions, and the alternative rock genre itself experiences an identity crisis with attempts to acquire indie aesthetics without losing its roots.
And after 14 years of silence, the Polish band Million Wires released their debut alternative rock EP ‘Not Over’. The EP includes 5 tracks that have absorbed a touch of melancholy in the style of Coldplay and Riverside, the energy of Death Cab for Cutie, which blends with the unique sound of Million Wires. I like that Million Wires makes music for those who want to return to the moment and feel it with their soul and heart.

The five tracks on ‘Not Over’ are structured as an emotional arc: from fragile awareness to liberation, from a quiet whisper to a confident scream. Million Wires knows how to work with dynamics, and believe me, you will hear it soon! It is audible when clean, intimate verses suddenly explode into wild and fiery climaxes, and romantic melodies flow into swaying shoegaze. I suggest you leave everything you are doing right now and enjoy the stunning EP ‘Not Over’.
‘Over’ opens the release exactly as a debut EP should open after a long pause. Confidently, brightly and memorably. ‘Over’ is commercial alternative rock at its best sounding. Million Wires immediately demonstrate their ability to work with layers and textures – the guitars create a spacious sound in which the vocals feel free. There is a light melancholy in this track, cool like evening fog. I like how the sensual guitar riffs and dense drum rhythm add energy and dynamics to the track. I want to note that ‘Over’ lasts 5 minutes and 9 seconds, and during this time you will be able to enjoy the incredible unfolding of sound. Amazing!

Then ‘Glass Houses’ sharply changes the degree of intimacy. Thoughtful vocals from the first seconds create a feeling that the musician is sharing something very personal with their audience. The lyrics here are deep and captivating, and Million Wires are not afraid to give them space to breathe. But the real magic happens when the chorus starts. What started as a fragile rock ballad suddenly explodes with incredible energy. This is one of the most stylish and vibrant tracks on the EP, here Million Wires demonstrates the ability to blend genres and moods.
The central track ‘I Know Better’ is written in triple meter and sets a special energy to the entire release. I like the soft and atmospheric guitars that create a sensation of light swaying and pacification. The vocal here is intimate, almost soaring, but this is only in order to open up in the chorus with bright sounds. ‘I Know Better’ is a track that explores the theme of self-determination, well you know, that moment when everyone around tries to direct your life, and you understand that the only correct path is the one that you choose yourself. Million Wires turn to a universal theme, but do it through the prism of personal experience, and that is precisely why ‘I Know Better’ so hooks.
‘Lost or Won’ deliberately lowers the degree after the emotional saturation of the previous tracks, and this decision works flawlessly. Atmospheric guitars and swaying riffs create a very cozy atmosphere. Here there is something from melancholic rock ballads with clear notes of commercial alternative rock. Million Wires masterfully work with dynamics: the track begins almost meditatively, but towards the end transitions into a culmination, where the melody unfolds into swaying shoegaze. This is that moment when you close your eyes and simply allow the sound to cover you with a wave. Flawlessly!

‘Runaway’ closes the EP on a very catchy note, and this is exactly the conclusion that such a release needs. Bright rhythm, guitar riffs, and amazing vocals, all this mixes, creating the atmosphere of a real alt-show. Here Million Wires allow themselves to be maximally open and energetic, and this liberation is felt during listening. But what is especially important, even in this brightness and energy Million Wires preserve that very melancholy that passes as a red thread through the entire EP. That rock melancholy that immediately draws attention to itself and hooks, not letting go even after the last chords have faded. ‘Runaway’ is an emotional point, after which you want to return to the beginning and go through the entire path again.
Be sure to add your favorite tracks to the playlist so as not to lose such perfect sound, and subscribe to Million Wires so as not to miss even more bright alt rock music! Absolutely recommend!
Hey Million Wires! Thank you for releasing such memorable music. In your music there is so much atmosphere that it practically is your yet another genre. The bright sound with a mix of styles instantly hooks, and the unhurried development of the melody only amplifies this feeling. It is audible how much effort and time was invested in this release and this is incredibly valuable! I will definitely show the EP ‘Not Over’ to everyone, everyone, let them also listen to such swaying and bright sound. I love this and want more!
