Sahej is a 19-year-old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who studies Neuroscience at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Sahej’s interest in the human experience runs through both areas of his life, from studying the brain to writing songs shaped by pain, fear, and the desire to feel understood. “Not Yet” comes from one of those intensely personal places, turning a creative low point into an atmospheric pop song about gathering the courage to continue.
The track arrived after Sahej spent months composing what he planned to release as his third song. A week away with his family gave him fresh ears, and when he returned, he hated the finished piece.
He picked up his guitar, left the room and found a progression that immediately opened another path. A melody followed, then the idea of thousands of people singing the central line together. That burst of inspiration became “Not Yet.”
An acoustic-guitar arpeggio runs through the song, keeping the arrangement in steady motion while piano notes land softly around Sahej’s voice. Strings rise through the background, layered vocals enlarge the chorus, and restrained drums add weight at carefully chosen moments.
