The Next Movement have built their reputation through over 1,500 live shows, turning the compact lineup of J.J. Flueck, Pascal “P” Kaeser and Sam Siegenthaler into a funk engine with the impact of a much larger band. Drums, samples, bass, synth and guitar form the core, while Flueck handles the lead vocal from behind the kit. Following appearances at Leverkusener Jazztagen, Black Sea Jazz Festival, Saulkrasti Jazz and venues including Milan’s Blue Note, Vienna’s Porgy & Bess and Zurich’s Moods, the trio now set the pace for their fourth album with “MOJO,” featuring The SoulVision Allstars Horns.
“MOJO” arrives with its collar open and its sleeves rolled up. The rhythm section hits with muscle, precision and an immediate sense of motion, creating the sort of groove that reaches the body before the brain has time to process it.
Kaeser’s bass supplies the swagger, Flueck drives the track forward from the kit, and Siegenthaler’s guitar brings flashes of rhythmic colour around the vocal. The SoulVision Allstars Horns push that energy higher. Their presence adds brass firepower and a celebratory edge, filling the arrangement with sharp punches and bursts of soul.
The collaboration suits The Next Movement perfectly: three musicians already accustomed to producing an enormous live sound suddenly gain another layer of heat. “MOJO” carries the excitement of a packed club, complete with sweat, movement and the electric exchange between stage and audience.
